One Dad's Creative Trick Could Be a Remedy for Your Child's Temper Tantrum
Everyone has bad days, but toddlers, more than others, have a hard time containing their sassiness in the wake of a trying situation. These days can be brutal for parents, but according to one hilarious dad, there's a way to stop your child's tantrum before it gets out of control: the potato trick.
"So today my three-year-old is just whining and complaining about everything. From his lunch to having to clean the floor to the show his brother wanted to watch," the father wrote on Reddit. "So I told him that he needs to stop being so salty ..."
That's when an idea suddenly popped into his head.Salty. When you're cooking a stew or soup and it becomes too salty, adding potato can help absorb the extra sodium. The Reddit user proceeded to find the biggest potato he could find. He then gave it to his son to hold until his attitude changed.
Only once he was "calm and ready to say nice things" would he be allowed to put the potato down and join the rest of the family again. And what do you know? The potato trick worked!
"He thought it was so silly and his mood changed," the post continued. "At first he was confused and wanted to put it down, but I told him that he will absolutely under no circumstances put the potato down until he's in a better mood to compose himself."
Next time you're at the grocery store pick up a potato or two to keep in the back of your pantry. You never know when your soup — or your child — might get a littletoosalty.
