Instagram Star Lexi Reed Just Posted Photos Of Her New Body After Skin-Removal Surgery
- Lexi Reed—a.k.a., @fatgirlfedup on Instagram—lost more than 300 pounds, but wound up with excess skin that affected her physical and mental health.
- Lexi, 27, recently had loose-skin removal surgery, during which she had seven pounds of excess skin removed.
- Now, Lexi is sharing her "new body" via photos on Instagram—including a newly contoured butt and flat stomach.
Last week Lexi Reed—best known for her Instagram account @fatgirlfedup—underwent surgery to have seven pounds of loose skin removed from her abdomen and outer thighs. And now, she's sharing her results.
After shedding more than 300 pounds through diet and exercise, Lexi, 27, was left with loose skin on her stomach, legs, and arms, leading to her decision to ditch it via surgery.
Last Wednesday (on Halloween, no less), Lexi endured a nine-hour surgery performed by board-certified plastic surgeon, Joseph Michaels, M.D., who removed the excess skin and contoured her butt and bottom half to follow the new curves of her body (he even gave her a brand-new belly button).
Lexi recently shared two photos of her new body: one of her newly-contoured butt, and one of her flat stomach.
Lexi said she was also clear with Michaels that, while she wanted to shape her backside, she didn't want to lose her curves. "Especially not my booty gains from the thousands of squats I've done since this started," she wrote on Instagram. "I love my Curves & they are one of my favorite things about my body!"
While Lexi says this part of her journey is a "different type of transformation," she noted that the changes also mark her "new reality"—one that is free from the pain of carrying around the extra skin.
"Once I lost my weight my skin weighed me down, threw off my posture, effected my workouts, and gave me neck pain to the point that I couldn't function for my daily activities or doing the things I loved," Lexi said. "Loose skin can cause just as much pain as not taking care of your health can."
But while Lexi is thankful to have had the surgery, it hasn't come without struggles: Lexi said she is also taking multiple pain medications and antibiotics, as well as receiving blood thinner injections. "This is all new to me, but this is all part of the processes," she wrote on Instagram. "That being said I've been living in dresses and taking naps when the pain gets too bad or the medication makes me sleepy."
Lexi also revealed in photos on Instagram that she has surgical drains attached to her body to prevent fluid retention.
Lexi and her husband, Danny, are staying in Washington while she recovers, keeping her in close proximity to Michaels (whose office is located in Fairfax, Virginia) for follow-up appointments.
Overall, though, Lexi remains her usual, positive self: "Recovery is a rollercoaster and so far some days are better than others but I know this process and all the pain will be worth it for my new life," she wrote.
