One way or another, everyone in his life is faced with a situation where it is necessary to replace or install an outlet. This article will explain how to properly install the outlet, where to install the sockets and what is required for this.
Socket installation process
First you need to decide where and in what quantity you are going to install sockets. Outlets should be easily accessible. Most often the sockets are installed at a height of up to 1 meter. Read more about this in the article At what height of the outlet.
For mounting sockets, you will need a set of some tools, such as a screwdriver, side cutters or a knife, to strip the wires and pliers, if you have a wiring done with a single-core wire. For internal type sockets, you will need another punch.
Since working with an electric current implies some danger, you should pay attention to work. Please note that if the electrical network in the room in which you want to install sockets is live, then the circuit breaker must be turned off before operation. It is usually located on the landing. It will be useful to check the presence of voltage in the network with an indicator screwdriver or multimeter.
Next you need to determine what type of outlet you need to install. Outlets are external and internal type.
Internal type socket
Consider the installation of internal type sockets. The socket is called internal, because its main part is recessed into the wall. Therefore, also tell you how to install the outlet in the wall. Such sockets are often made in concrete, brick walls. Internal type sockets must be installed if the wiring in the room runs inside the walls.
If you are going to install a new outlet, you will need a perforator with a special nozzle (crown) in order to make a recess in the wall. After you make a recess, a box is inserted into it or, in a different way, a bottom plate. Inside the box you need to release the end of the wire and put it on alabaster, then wait until the alabaster hardens and the box doesn’t fix tightly in the wall. The main thing that podozetnik not stuck out of the wall. If you install the socket in drywall, then there are special locking tabs in the socket. We attach them to the plasterboard wall. On the outlet there are special clips for wires. We clean the wires and clamp them with special screws. You must carefully clamp the wires, otherwise there may be resistance, due to which this place will be heated. Now you can install the outlet in the box. The socket in the box should be held by special spacer legs. They are adjusted by appropriate screws. Unclip the tabs until the socket is firmly in the box. Now, when fixed the outlet, you can hang the top cover. The socket is ready.
Next, we describe the installation process of the outlet of the outer type. Outdoor Outletsthey are used mainly in rooms with external wiring. Often these are rooms with walls made of flammable materials. With an external outlet, everything is simpler. It does not require any special tools.
We take the socket, disassemble it and fasten the main part to the wall with screws. Then we connect the wires to the outlet with clips. It remains to secure the upper part. Since these sockets are mainly used with external wiring, in the upper part you need to make a hole for the wire.Cut a hole in the upper part and set it on the base. This completes the installation process.
It is worth mentioning about the outlet with grounding. These sockets are safer, because in which case, the current will go to the ground. It is already hard to find outlets without grounding contacts. The technology of installation of such sockets does not significantlydifferent from the usual outlets. On such sockets there is an additional clip for the grounding conductor. The ground conductor should always be yellow with a green stripe. It is this wire that we attach to the grounding clip. In old houses there is usually no ground conductor, so you can do a “zero”. The bottom line is that the pinch contacts can be connected to the neutral wire. To distinguish the neutral wire from the phase can be using the indicator screwdriver. This is checked in the presence of voltage in the network. To do this, touch the screwdriver to one of the wires and touch the metal part with the finger on the screwdriver handle. If you touch the phase wiring indicator lights up. On a zero wire the indicator will not be shone.
Install the outlet with your own hands, as it turned out, easy. The main thing is to observe the necessary precautions and safety measures.
