How to clean a coconut?

Coconuts are already difficult to surprise buyers in Russia, since this fruit is found in almost all supermarkets of the country. Coconut flakes decorate pastries, and coconut oil is added to cosmetics and used in cooking. Coconuts contain many useful substances, for example, vitamins of groups A, B and C, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, fatty oil, organic acids - and this is not the whole list.

By the way, from the point of view of botany, the fruits of the coconut palm are properly called drupes, and not the coconut, as we used to.

How to split a coconut

So, if you decide to clean the coconut for the first time and do not know how to do it correctly, now we will give some practical advice.

Coconut shell is very hard, so without a special tool you can not clean it. You need a screwdriver, a hacksaw or a hammer.

You can peel a coconut in several ways:

  1. Use a clean screwdriver to poke a coconut in special places where there are three points to drain the juice into a glass. Then take a hammer and put a coconut on the floor or table, hit it with a hammer so that it splits, and continue until the shell cracks in several places.
  2. Having pierced a coconut, drain the juice and cut it in half with a hacksaw.
  3. Take the fruit in your left hand, holding it on the weight, and right-hand tap it with a hammer from all sides. The shell should crack and move away from the pulp.
