The breed was bred by crossing the first stray and Persian cats that came across. For the first time this species was officially registered only in 1992.
The Selkirk Rex breed is a medium sized cat that has a muscular body. She has rather massive shoulders, as well as a short and powerful neck.

By standard, Selkirk Rex cats own medium-sized ears, which expand at the base. They have slightly rounded tips. The eyes of the animal are round, large and widely spaced.
The wool is slightly wavy, resembles a plush toy to the touch. These cats are owners of a thick undercoat, so during the cold season they practically do not freeze.
