Carrie Underwood Opens Up About the Serious Facial Injuries She's Dealing With After November Accident
Carrie Underwood is still recovering after taking a hard fall in November, just days after she hosted the 2019 Country Music Awards. The 34-year-old country singer tripped on the front steps of her Nashville home, according toThe Tennessean, and was briefly hospitalized for a broken wrist, cuts, and abrasions.
I just wanted let everyone know that I’m doing great. Had surgery on my wrist yesterday & all went well...even though I’ll be setting off airport metal detectors from now on...I’m so thankful for the doctors, nurses, family & friends who’ve been taking such great care of me.— Carrie Underwood (@carrieunderwood) November 15, 2019
In a letter sent to her fan club members on Sunday, Underwood revealed that in addition to having surgery on her wrist and undergoing physical therapy, she's been healing from serious facial injuries as well. “There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about, since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” she wrote. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”
She added that her injuries were serious enough to require 40 to 50 stitches to her face: “Now, here we are 7 weeks later and, even though I’ve had the best people helping me, I’m still healing and not quite looking the same. I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up, but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse.”
The Grammy winner has largely stayed out of the spotlight since her accident, though last week, she posted a selfie on Instagram with most of her face obscured by a scarf from her CALIA by Carrie fitness line.
In the letter to her fans, Underwood also explained that while she has a long way to go before she's fully recovered, she’s hopeful about what the new year will bring. "I am determined to make 2019 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way," she wrote. "And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different."
In the meantime, it sounds like she has plenty of support from her husband of 7 years, Mike Fisher.
